Dr. Craig Hornbarger, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Craig Hornbarger is a Board Certified General Surgeon, specializing in Advanced Laparoscopic, (minimally invasive) and DaVinci Robotic procedures. A native of Buffalo, New York, Dr. Hornbarger graduated Cum Laude from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He received his Medical Doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo - School of Medicine in 1987, while on scholarship with the USAF. He completed a five year residency in general surgery at David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis AFB, CA, affiliated with UC Davis School of Medicine, Sacramento, CA in 1992. Dr. Hornbarger fulfilled his military obligation as Chief of Surgery at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, OK, separating in 1995. From 1995-2003 he served as Clinical Instructor of Surgery at SUNY Buffalo, training medical students and residents in general surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hornbarger and his family moved to Colorado in 2003 to be close to extended family and friends.

Dr. Hornbarger and his staff strive to provide the most caring, conscientious and expert surgical care to their patients. For the last 24 years, Dr. Hornbarger has established a tradition of providing State-of-the-Art surgical care to all his patients by employing his expert skills in Advanced Laparoscopic procedures for hernia repair, colon resection-including complex procedures for the treatment of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), paraesophageal hernia repairs and diagnostic procedures. He specializes in all aspects of general surgical procedures including those for thyroid disease, lymph node biopsy, excision of subcutaneous mass/skin lesions and is a pioneer of the Kugel procedure, a lateral preperitoneal approach for the repair of inguinal hernias - and has traveled around the country demonstrating and teaching this procedure to practicing surgeons.
Dr. Hornbarger has also added the daVinci Robotic Surgery System to his minimally invasive surgery options for cases such as gallbladder removal, colon resection and hernia repairs. This system is the wave of the future in surgery, and allows patients a quicker healing time and lower complication rates, as well as aesthetic results in the case of the singleport robotic cholecystectomy - only one incision site, hidden inside the belly-button - which, after healing, is virtually undetectable!

Dr. Hornbarger is committed to the health of his community as well, working as a Trauma Surgeon at local hospitals- putting his expertise and technical skills into action during some of the most complex emergency situations, as well as being a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard with the 140th MDG and Commander of the CERFP unit at Buckley AFB.
